Two-time Olympic judo medalist Sarah-Leonie Cysique from France was taken to a hospital after a maneuver by her opponent caused her to land on her head during a semifinal match at the world championships on Tuesday. The incident occurred early in her contest against Akari Omori of Japan in the 57-kilogram weight class. Cysique’s neck was supported with a brace before she was carried off on a stretcher as reported by French sports publication L’Equipe. The severity of the injury was not immediately known. L’Equipe stated that Omori executed a legal hip throw on Cysique, leading to her head impact at the event in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. In the 57-kilogram division, Cysique earned a bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics and a silver medal at the 2021 Tokyo Games. She also secured mixed team gold medals at both Olympic events.
