London authorities, including the London Police and Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), have introduced a dedicated hotline for individuals possessing information relevant to an ongoing fraud inquiry linked to London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC). The investigation, initiated by the London Police Service (LPS) in October 2024 following suspicions of financial deceit at the medical facility, has now engaged the assistance of the OPP’s Serious Fraud Office due to the intricate nature of the case.
Detective Superintendent Sean Travis of the LPS criminal investigations division emphasized the unwavering dedication to the investigation and appreciated the collaborative efforts with the OPP and Serious Fraud Office. He stressed the significance of shared expertise and the importance of information sharing in progressing with the complex investigation, urging anyone with pertinent details to come forward, as even minor information could be valuable to the investigators.
Subsequent to the commencement of the police inquiry, CBC News uncovered that LHSC had filed two lawsuits against five former executives, a contractor, and various companies involved in hospital projects. The combined sum of the lawsuits exceeds $60 million and alleges complicity of some executives in the fraudulent activities. One of the claims also identifies over 60 properties, valued at nearly $20 million, allegedly linked to three individuals implicated in the scheme, acquired subsequent to the hospital awarding substantial contracts.
Individuals possessing information relevant to this probe are urged to contact the dedicated hotline at 1-844-677-9413, the London Police Service at (519) 661-5670, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. Information can also be anonymously submitted online to London Middlesex Crime Stoppers.
