A man from Kitchener, aged 65, is currently hospitalized with severe and life-threatening injuries after being hit by a vehicle that disregarded a road closure barrier east of Shakespeare on Thursday afternoon. Perth County OPP responded to a serious pedestrian accident on Line 34, located between Road 104 and Road 106 around 4:20 p.m. The barricade had been placed to redirect traffic following an earlier three-vehicle crash.
According to OPP Sgt. Ed Sanchuk, the victim was swiftly taken to the hospital for urgent medical attention. Sgt. Sanchuk, in a video shared on social media, highlighted that the barricade was meant to divert vehicles due to a previous crash incident earlier that day.
During the video recording, Sgt. Sanchuk witnessed another vehicle breaching the road closure barricades at the opposite end and colliding with a vehicle obstructing the road, thankfully resulting in no injuries. He emphasized the importance of drivers reducing speed, staying alert, and preventing such avoidable accidents.
Sgt. Sanchuk stressed the need for motorists to prioritize safety and remain attentive while driving. Authorities are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or possesses relevant footage from home security cameras or dash-cams to reach out to the police for assistance in the ongoing investigation.
