A new option has emerged for households seeking TV access without monthly fees. Introduced in 2024, Freely initially provided live channel access through a broadband connection on select new TVs. However, in the past 18 months, more TV brands like Hisense, Toshiba, and Sharp have integrated Freely into their screens. Previously, viewers had to purchase a new TV from a tech retailer to access live and on-demand content via Freely.
Recently, Manhattan’s technology team introduced the Aero 4K set-top box, enabling any existing TV to access over 60 free live channels and on-demand content, eliminating the need for costly subscriptions. The device offers voice search, viewing recommendations, a comprehensive TV guide, and the capability to pause live content. Users with subscriptions to platforms like Disney+ and Netflix can also access these apps through the box.
Priced at £69.99, the Aero 4K has gained popularity quickly. Currys is the first UK store to offer the Manhattan Aero 4K, which has already sold out. Currys confirmed that the device will be restocked soon and interested buyers can sign up on the Currys website for alerts. Other retailers, including Amazon and John Lewis, are expected to start selling the device shortly.
Once back in stock, the Aero 4K will compete with devices like Virgin’s Stream box and Sky Stream, all offering web-based content delivery without the need for aerials or dishes. Transitioning to streaming provides benefits such as easier installation without engineer visits and regular over-the-air updates.
The TV landscape is evolving rapidly, with Freely reporting over a million users. This number is projected to rise as more individuals abandon traditional viewing methods in favor of streaming services.
