McDonald’s customers are expressing frustration over changes to the fast-food giant’s loyalty program. Starting March 17, the points required to redeem free items through MyMcDonald’s Rewards will increase. Currently, 5,500 points are needed for items like a Big Mac or Chicken Nuggets, but this will rise to 6,500 points. Customers earn 100 points for every £1 spent at McDonald’s.
Moreover, the points needed for other items such as a Medium Coffee or Small Fries will also increase. For instance, the points required for a regular McFlurry or an Apple Pie will go up from 2,500 to 3,500 points. Likewise, to redeem a Double Cheeseburger or McChicken sandwich, customers will need 5,000 points, up from 4,000 points.
In response to the backlash, a McDonald’s spokesperson explained that these changes are a result of escalating food and supply costs. Despite the point adjustments, the company has introduced new redemption options including Chicken Selects, Cheese sides, and a new Sausage Sandwich to provide more choices for customers.
This announcement follows the launch of McDonald’s new menu in the UK, featuring unique items like the Surf N’ Turf burger with two beef patties, a white fish fillet patty, cheese, and other toppings. Additionally, the menu includes the Chicken Cheeseburger, Espresso Milkshake, and Chilli Cheese Bites for customers to enjoy.
