A suspect linked to the fatal shooting of a man in Niagara Falls on July 16 has been apprehended in Montreal and is set to be extradited back to Ontario. Josta MacNeal was taken into custody by the Montreal Police Service in connection with the murder of 35-year-old Mitchell Snoddon. MacNeal, who is facing a second-degree murder charge, was arrested, while the other suspect, Maaroof Bangi, remains at large.
Niagara Regional Police highlighted the ongoing search for Bangi, emphasizing the potential danger as no firearm has been recovered, categorizing him as armed and dangerous. Authorities urged the public not to approach Bangi if spotted and to contact 911 immediately. Additionally, a plea was made for Bangi to surrender himself and seek legal counsel.
According to initial reports by the police, the incident occurred when two suspects entered an apartment building on Thorold Stone Road in Niagara Falls and shot Snoddon shortly before 9 p.m. ET on July 16. Despite being rushed to the hospital by ambulance, Snoddon succumbed to his injuries shortly after.
Authorities believe the shooting was a targeted attack rather than a random act of violence, although they advised caution to the public. Previously, Niagara police had released surveillance footage of the suspects and sought information from the community regarding their whereabouts.
Initially, it was reported that the suspects were driving a 2022-2026 Nissan Rogue SUV. Subsequently, the fugitives were believed to be driving a 2016 Toyota Camry with specific identifiable damage, last seen on Highway 45 in Hastings, Ontario.
Prior to these developments, a Mazda CX5, suspected to have transported the suspects, was recovered by the authorities. Detectives speculate that the suspects may alter their appearance to evade capture, including changes in hair length and color, makeup, clothing, and facial hair styles.
