The Toronto pair secured their victory by defeating Brazil’s Thamela Coradello Galil and Victoria Lopes Pereira Tosta with scores of 21-13 and 21-18 during Pool A play. The upcoming events include the Round of 12 and quarterfinals scheduled for Saturday, with the semifinals and medal matches concluding the tournament on Sunday.
Having clinched the Montreal title in 2023 and 2025, Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson are aiming for their third victory. Notably, the event did not take place in Montreal in 2024.
Among the Canadian women competing, Marie-Alex Bélanger and Lea Monkhouse faced a defeat of 2-0 against the U.S. duo Donlin and Denaburg (21-10, 21-17). They are set to challenge another American pair, Shaw and Phillips, later in the day. In men’s matches, Cameron Chadwick from Barrie, Ont., and Steven Abrams from Georgetown, Ont., suffered a loss to the U.S. duo Taylor Crabb and Andy Benesh with a score of 2-1 (23-21, 21-18, 15-12).
Later in the day, Sam Schachter and Jonny Pickett are scheduled to compete against Brazil’s Andre Loyola Stein and Renato Andrew Lima de Carvalho.
