In Montreal, two tragic cases of suspected intimate partner violence have resulted in the death of one man and the arrest of another individual. The incidents occurred just days apart and claimed the lives of two women.
A 51-year-old man was found with stab wounds in an apartment on 9th Avenue in the Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension borough on August 15. He was pronounced dead in the hospital. At the scene, the body of 44-year-old Leakkhena Seng, who had also been stabbed, was discovered. This marked the 15th homicide on the island of Montreal this year.
Two days later, a 35-year-old suspect was apprehended by the Montreal police service’s major crimes unit after being found in an apartment in the same borough with the body of a 41-year-old woman. The suspect is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
The police responded to a 911 call at an apartment on 39th Street, near Paul-Corbeil Street, where they found a man and a woman with serious injuries to their upper bodies that appeared to be caused by a sharp object. The woman’s death was the 16th homicide on the island of Montreal this year. She was a mother of multiple children.
Authorities have indicated that these incidents are linked to intimate partner violence but have not disclosed the man’s relationship to the children or the current status of the couple.
