Five individuals sustained severe injuries in a multi-vehicle crash in Elgin County on Thursday evening, as reported by the Ontario Provincial Police. The incident occurred at the junction of John Wise Line and Fairview Road around 6:15 p.m., prompting the response of emergency services.
Ontario Provincial Police Constable Jeff Beaumaster shared in a video that a collision involving three vehicles transpired at the intersection. The sequence of events involved a pickup truck and an SUV colliding, subsequently hitting another SUV that was stationary at the junction.
The first SUV, carrying five occupants, all suffered severe injuries and were rushed to the hospital. Meanwhile, the three occupants of the pickup truck were also hospitalized but with non-life-threatening injuries. The individuals in the second SUV did not require hospitalization and are believed to have sustained minor injuries.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the accident, and the intersection will remain closed for an extended period for further examination. John Wise Line is inaccessible from Centennial Road to Sunset Road, while Fairview Road is blocked from Southdale Line to Fruit Ridge Line.
