Musician Dennis Ellsworth Plans Musical Break to Focus on Family

Dennis Ellsworth, a long-time figure in the music scene of Prince Edward Island, is approaching his 50th birthday and is looking to take a break from his musical career. Despite his success and collaborations with prominent Canadian musicians, Ellsworth feels it’s time to shift his focus to his family.

Expressing his gratitude for the support he has received in various forms throughout his career, Ellsworth mentioned a decline in returns from touring and a desire to prioritize his role as a father and husband. While he plans to step back from performing his own music, he will continue to be involved with The Fabulously Rich, a popular Tragically Hip tribute band that he co-founded with Gord Downie.

Although Ellsworth will continue to write music, he intends to reduce his pace significantly. He emphasized his commitment to creativity but acknowledged a change in priorities, opting for a more relaxed approach to music. Despite his decision to step away from live performances of his original songs, Ellsworth remains dedicated to his craft and will continue to engage with music through his involvement with The Fabulously Rich.

Reflecting on the evolving landscape of the music industry, Ellsworth discussed his reluctance towards social media and the pressure for artists to maintain a constant online presence. He expressed a desire to avoid conforming to these expectations and emphasized his preference for authenticity in his artistic endeavors.

While Ellsworth recently concluded his performances with the Love Junkies, he has two upcoming shows scheduled for this fall at Trailside Music Hall on Nov. 13 and Harmony House Lounge on Nov. 27. Despite describing these shows as low-pressure and without grand plans, Ellsworth reassured fans that he will still be actively engaged in music, particularly through his collaborations with The Fabulously Rich.
