A lifelong resident of Summerside, Lykow identifies himself as a concerned citizen rather than a seasoned politician. Despite lacking formal political experience, he believes his background in analytics, logistics, leadership, and community service, gained from various roles in aerospace, business management, and involvement in the cadet program, equips him with the necessary skills for the mayoral position.
Emphasizing his key initiatives, Lykow aims to bolster Summerside’s electrical infrastructure, advance efforts in affordable housing, and facilitate commercial growth to accommodate the city’s burgeoning population and retain its youthful demographic, families, and enterprises. In the event of a successful election, he plans to propose a reduction of the mayor’s salary by half during his term, with a personal commitment to allocate the saved funds to local causes such as the transit system, food security, or emergency shelters if the council rejects the motion.
Lykow envisions building on the foundation set by the current administration, particularly in progressing towards a net-zero electrical grid, expanding the city’s solar energy capabilities, and securing provincial funding to ensure residential and commercial development remains economically feasible. The municipal elections in most Prince Edward Island municipalities, including Summerside, are scheduled for November 2.
