“Newfoundland Braces for Gusty Winds and Snowfall”

Gusty winds and snowfall are expected in parts of Newfoundland on Friday, prompting the need for windbreakers and winter coats. According to Environment Canada meteorologist Robert Grove, weather conditions are set to deteriorate. The agency has issued several weather warnings for various regions of Newfoundland on Friday.

A yellow wind warning is in place for the southeast and southwest Avalon Peninsula, with wind gusts predicted to reach up to 80 km/h and 100 km/h along coastal areas from Friday afternoon into the evening. CBC meteorologist Ashley Brauweiler mentioned that strong winds will impact other parts of the island, with gusts ranging from 60 to 80 km/h in most areas.

Areas like Burgeo-Ramea and the Burin Peninsula are under a yellow wind warning and a special weather statement, anticipating snowfall of two to five centimeters. Grove highlighted the likelihood of falling temperatures leading to snow, mainly affecting high terrain regions and potentially causing hazardous driving conditions. Clarenville might also experience snowfall ranging from two to five centimeters.

Connaigre is included in the areas under a yellow wind warning for Friday, with potential utility outages and travel disruptions. Environment Canada also forecasts snowfall between two to five centimeters for this region. Drivers on specific highways are advised to be cautious due to slippery road conditions.

Additionally, Brauweiler mentioned that parts of the province could receive 10-20 millimeters of rain starting Thursday.
