Three security personnel at a nightclub in downtown Winnipeg face assault charges following an incident where a Winnipeg Sea Bears player, Teddy Allen, sustained serious injuries earlier this month. The Canadian Elite Basketball League team had reported that Allen was hospitalized after the assault occurred in the early hours of August 3.
The individuals, aged 35, 37, and 58, who were employed at the venue, were taken into custody on Wednesday and charged with assault causing bodily harm. They have since been released on undertakings, as confirmed by the police in a news release issued on Thursday. While the exact nightclub location was not disclosed, authorities mentioned that it was situated on Main Street, between Portage and William avenues.
In a statement provided by the team on Thursday, Allen disclosed that he has undergone medical evaluations, received a diagnosis, and is now recuperating at home. He expressed that the assault was unwarranted and emphasized that such incidents should never occur to anyone.
