Jessica Ennis-Hill, the Olympic champion, will be participating in Kevin Sinfield’s charitable event in Sheffield to support Motor Neurone Disease (MND) fundraising efforts. Ennis-Hill, a resident of Sheffield, has agreed to run alongside Sinfield on Thursday as part of his ‘7 in 7 Together’ challenge, marking the fourth leg of this initiative.
Sinfield, who commenced his week-long challenge on Monday, aims to complete an ultra marathon each day. This endeavor represents Sinfield’s sixth annual campaign for MND charities, having amassed over £10 million so far. The funds have notably contributed to the establishment of a pioneering facility in Leeds, the first of its kind in the United Kingdom.
Motivated by the diagnosis of his former rugby teammate and close friend Rob Burrow with MND, Sinfield has garnered global recognition for his relentless efforts. Ennis-Hill’s involvement adds significant visibility to Sinfield’s cause, enhancing awareness about MND.
A decorated athlete, Ennis-Hill secured Olympic gold in the heptathlon during the 2012 Games and boasts three world championship titles. Following her retirement from athletics in 2016, she has pursued a successful media career and assumed patronage roles in various charities, including the Sheffield Children’s Hospital and Barrie Wells’ sports foundation.
Sinfield remains steadfast in his quest to find a cure for MND, emphasizing the importance of continued advocacy efforts. Recent news of England World Cup winner Lewis Moody being diagnosed with MND serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing need for support. Moody plans to host a fundraising dinner in April and organize a charity bike ride in 2026 to further contribute to the cause.
After completing the Sheffield leg of the challenge, Sinfield will proceed to Cumbria, Scotland, and ultimately conclude the initiative in Leeds on Sunday. For more information about the initiative, visit https://www.therhinos.co.uk/the-club/sinfield-together-2025.
