Ontario Provincial Police have announced the filing of charges against both a transport truck driver and the Edmonton-headquartered company he is employed with, following an incident on Sunday along Highway 17, located east of Mattawa. According to a news release issued on Tuesday by the OPP, the driver’s documentation indicated that the journey from Kenora to North Bay was completed within a mere 12 hours. However, a distance of 1566 km along Highway 17 typically takes nearly 17 hours according to Google Maps.
The driver is facing multiple charges, including speeding, operating a vehicle without a functional speed-limiting system, surpassing the maximum driving time of 13 hours in a day, tampering with records or documents, and failing to provide necessary information. The Edmonton-based carrier, although not specifically named by the authorities, is confronting three charges, which include allowing the operation of a vehicle lacking a functional speed-limiting system or an electronic logging device.
