Pat Cummins Likely to Miss Second Ashes Test

Australia’s captain, Pat Cummins, is likely to miss the second Ashes Test as the team announced an unchanged 14-man squad for the upcoming day-night match in Brisbane.

Cummins was absent from the previous two-day victory in Perth due to a persistent back issue. Despite showing promising progress in his recovery, he was left out of the squad after additional fitness work and a practice session with stand-in captain Steve Smith.

While no specific reason was provided for Cummins’ exclusion, the team stated that he would continue his preparations in Brisbane. Although there is a slight chance of him being added to the squad later, it would be an unexpected decision given his initial omission.

England will benefit from Cummins’ absence, as Mitchell Starc, who excelled in the previous match, will lead the bowling attack. With Josh Hazlewood also sidelined, Starc will be supported by Brendan Doggett and Scott Boland.

Despite concerns over his back spasms, opener Usman Khawaja retains his place in the squad, with Travis Head likely to partner him at the top of the order. The final playing XI remains uncertain, with options including Josh Inglis and Beau Webster.

The squad for the second Ashes Test against England includes Steve Smith (c), Scott Boland, Alex Carey, Brendan Doggett, Cameron Green, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Michael Neser, Mitchell Starc, Jake Weatherald, and Beau Webster.
