A private aircraft with eight individuals on board crashed close to a remote radar installation in western Alaska on Thursday, as confirmed by a federal official. Clint Johnson, the head of the Alaska division of the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board, stated that the plane had two pilots and six passengers, though their condition was not immediately known.
The flight departed from Anchorage and is believed to have gone down early Thursday afternoon while approaching Cape Newenham, according to Johnson. He emphasized that the details gathered so far are subject to further investigation.
Subsequent to receiving a report of an “aircraft incident” in the vicinity of the Cape Newenham Long Range Radar Site, the Alaska Rescue Coordination Center initiated a search and rescue operation. The center mentioned that it would disclose more information as it became accessible but refrained from responding to inquiries.
