“Propane Truck Leak Forces Ottawa Evacuations”

Residents living near Parkway Road and Cedar Lane in south Ottawa were instructed to vacate their homes for several hours following a propane truck accident that resulted in a leak on Tuesday night. The incident was reported in Greely just before 7 p.m., prompting a swift response from Ottawa police.

Fortunately, there were no reported injuries in the crash, as confirmed by paramedics. However, as a precautionary measure, authorities advised all individuals residing within an 800-meter radius to evacuate while emergency responders worked to manage the leak. This evacuation encompassed over 60 households in the vicinity.

By 3:20 a.m. on Wednesday, firefighters were able to reduce the evacuation zone to a 300-meter radius after successfully containing the leak and repositioning the overturned truck. Subsequently, Ottawa police announced on Wednesday morning that the truck had been removed, signaling the green light for residents to return home.

During the evacuation period, Greely Community Centre, situated approximately two kilometers away on Meadow Drive, served as a designated reception center for displaced residents.
