Rachel Reeves Slams Farage Over Pro-Russian Links

Nigel Farage faced sharp criticism from Rachel Reeves over alleged pro-Russian influences within Reform UK. The Chancellor’s remarks during her Budget speech in Parliament drew laughter from MPs.

Reeves emphasized the escalation of sanctions on Russia and the freezing of Russian assets, clarifying that her statement did not target the Clacton MP. This comes as Reform UK’s former Welsh leader, Nathan Gill, received a lengthy prison sentence for accepting Russian bribes, prompting calls for an investigation into potential pro-Putin elements in the party.

Keir Starmer also condemned Farage following Gill’s conviction, urging him to address the issue within his party. The Prime Minister expressed shock over Gill’s actions and urged Farage to conduct an inquiry into any connections between Reform UK and Russia.

Farage, however, defended his position, stating limitations in his abilities to investigate such matters. He highlighted the embarrassment for UKIP and downplayed the impact on Reform UK, suggesting the involvement of MI5 for further scrutiny.

Gill, who admitted to accepting bribes for promoting a pro-Russian agenda, received funds from Oleg Voloshyn, identified as a pawn of the Russian security services by the US government. A Metropolitan Police investigation is ongoing to explore potential deeper implications of the scandal.
