Racing Icon Rachael Blackmore Expecting First Child

Retired racing icon Rachael Blackmore has revealed that she is pregnant with her first child alongside fellow jockey Brian Hayes. The couple recently exchanged vows in an intimate ceremony in West Cork on January 5, marking a decade of companionship.

Rachael joyfully shared the news on her Instagram story, showcasing a snapshot of her Volvo car with a baby pram nestled in the trunk. The 36-year-old retired from horse racing last year after a remarkable career that included historic victories such as being the first female jockey to win the Grand National and securing the leading jockey title at Cheltenham.

Originally from Tipperary, Rachael achieved an impressive tally of 575 wins during her professional racing tenure.

Having announced her retirement in May of the previous year after the triumphant partnership with Minella Times at Aintree, Rachael was also celebrated as the top rider at the Cheltenham Festival in 2021, clinching victories in all five championship contests.

Her accomplishments extended to notable wins at various races, including the Champion Hurdle and Cheltenham Gold Cup. Rachael’s outstanding performances were acknowledged with prestigious accolades, such as the World Sports Star award at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards.

Rachael and Brian, who have been acquainted for over ten years since their initial meeting at a Co Carlow stable, have shared a close friendship that evolved into a romantic relationship. Despite both being jockeys, the couple seldom discuss racing in their household.

Acknowledging Brian’s significant influence on her career upon retirement, Rachael expressed her gratitude, recognizing his pivotal support. The couple has been seen together at various events including Wimbledon, music festivals, and vacations.

Brian, aged 34, boasts a distinguished 17-year career as a jockey, securing one victory at the Cheltenham Festival. He has ridden for notable figures in the industry, including Willie Mullins.
