Rory McIlroy Firmly Rejects Transition to Boxing

Rory McIlroy has firmly rejected the idea of transitioning from golf to boxing, citing his aversion to making a living by enduring punches to the face.

Following his recent win of the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award, McIlroy was questioned about the possibility of a career shift while attending the Anthony Joshua versus Jake Paul fight. When asked if he would ever consider trying boxing like some others have, McIlroy emphatically responded, “No. Absolutely not. I’m content playing golf professionally. I have no desire to take blows for a living.”

Expressing his passion for boxing, McIlroy predicted a victory for Joshua over Paul, favoring Joshua due to his reach, height, and experience advantages. He praised Jake Paul for his bravery in taking the fight but ultimately sided with Joshua for an early knockout win.

Despite a quick turnaround from the awards ceremony to the boxing event, McIlroy shared his travel details, flying from Manchester to attend both events promptly. He mentioned leaving the award trophy back home, emphasizing the swift but fulfilling experience of the past few days.

McIlroy, who resides with his wife, Erica Stoll, in Jupiter Island, Florida, left Stoll and their daughter, Poppy, in the U.S. while he traveled to the UK. Acknowledging his family’s support, McIlroy expressed gratitude for the public’s recognition, his family’s sacrifices, and the BBC for hosting the awards ceremony.

Reflecting on his successful year, McIlroy thanked everyone involved and expressed hope for future challenges, ending his speech on a note of honor and appreciation.
