At least 15 individuals lost their lives, and over 130 sustained injuries on Friday following multiple drone attacks carried out by Russian forces on a shopping center located in central Ukraine, as confirmed by authorities. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy vowed to respond to what he described as an “act of barbarism.” The city of Kryvyi Rih, Zelenskyy’s hometown, was struck during daylight hours, leaving 22 children among the wounded, as reported by regional governor Oleksandr Hanzha. Hanzha further stated that 29 individuals, including five children, are in critical condition post the attack.
A visual of black smoke emanating from a large industrial building was shared by Hanzha, highlighting the aftermath of the assault. Zelenskyy condemned the incident as “absolutely cynical and despicable,” noting that a second drone strike hit the shopping center 30 minutes after the initial attack, indicating a deliberate targeting of emergency services. Describing such assaults as terrorist acts, Zelenskyy called on the global community to hold Russia accountable, asserting that Ukraine will retaliate.
In a separate incident on the same day, reports from Ukrainian state media via Telegram revealed that at least four individuals, including three children, lost their lives, and a woman was injured following a Russian drone attack in the southern region of Mykolaiv. The conflict between Russia and Ukraine continues to intensify, with ongoing hostilities approaching the 4.5-year mark. A recent Russian ballistic missile strike on the Ukrainian capital Kyiv resulted in the deaths of 17 people. In response, Ukraine has increased its offensive actions against Russia, targeting key oil facilities and logistical infrastructure in an effort to weaken Moscow’s military capabilities. The two nations have been embroiled in a full-scale conflict since Russia initiated its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
