At least 37 individuals lost their lives in the aftermath of a Russian assault on the Bucha area near Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, as per officials’ statement on Saturday. Tymur Tkachenko, the head of the local regional military administration, reported that around 50 residential structures were impacted by the attack, triggering a significant fire that extended to residences and a restaurant.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy revealed in a statement that a warehouse in the village of Myla was hit, leading to a subsequent explosion. While specifics about the location were not disclosed, Zelenskyy mentioned that legal actions had been initiated due to official negligence.
Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of regulations prohibiting the storage of ammunition near residential areas, noting that a care home for elderly and disabled individuals and several residential properties suffered damage. Over 370 people have been evacuated, with the process ongoing.
Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi echoed concerns about the recent warehouse attack, referring to a prior incident in Vyshneve where an ammunition depot was struck, resulting in fatalities and widespread destruction. Koretskyi emphasized the need to learn from previous tragedies and hold those responsible accountable to prevent future occurrences.
Russia’s Ministry of Defense issued a statement claiming responsibility for targeting a warehouse in Myla that housed components and launch boosters for long-range drones. Additionally, attacks on the ports of Mykolaiv and Izmail, a logistics center, and warehouses storing parts for Ukraine’s Flamingo cruise missiles in the Kyiv region were mentioned.
The continuous air raids in Kyiv have entered their third day, causing significant economic strain and disrupting civilian life in the Ukrainian capital. In another incident, attacks in Ukraine’s southern Kherson region resulted in two fatalities and 27 injuries, with homes and apartment buildings sustaining damage.
