“Russian Bombardment in Ukraine Kills Six Amid Peace Talks”

Russian military commanders conducted an intense bombardment on Ukraine overnight, unleashing close to 500 bombs and resulting in six fatalities. The attack coincided with signs that Ukraine might be leaning towards accepting a significant peace agreement brokered by the US. Prior to Kyiv’s indication of potential acceptance, the Russian assault caused chaos and explosions throughout Kyiv, prompting Romanian fighter jets to scramble urgently and reports of multiple airspace violations in Moldova.

The bombardment not only caused fires in residential buildings and severe damage to infrastructure across Ukraine but also led to a stray missile, bearing a wartime marking, crashing into a home in Moldova. Furthermore, six lethal Russian drones breached Moldovan airspace in one of the most severe violations since Russia’s full-scale invasion commenced.

A total of 22 missiles and 460 drones were deployed, forcing Ukrainians to seek shelter and resulting in disruptions to essential services such as water, electricity, and heating in parts of the capital. In response, the Moldovan Defence Ministry issued a cautionary statement urging citizens to report any foreign objects found and to avoid touching any fallen debris but to inform authorities promptly.

Incidents of airspace violations continued as a drone infiltrated Romanian airspace from Ukraine, prompting the scrambling of two F-16 Fighting Falcon jets. Subsequent airspace infractions in the same region were detected, leading to radar contact by the F-16s. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized the importance of saving lives daily, highlighting the significance of military defense and ongoing sanctions against the aggressor.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported casualties and property damage in various districts of Kyiv due to the attacks, with two fatalities and injuries in Dniprovskyi and significant structural harm in the Pechersk district. Additional strikes claimed more lives and caused injuries in other parts of Kyiv. These assaults occurred amidst high-level discussions between Ukraine and European leaders regarding peace negotiations, with efforts focused on minimizing concessions to Russia proposed in previous peace plans.

The US President’s wavering stance, particularly in favor of Moscow, has drawn criticism for his recent remarks chastising Ukraine for alleged ingratitude towards US support during the conflict. Furthermore, a contentious 28-point plan attributed to Russia has surfaced, outlining demanding terms for Ukraine, including territorial concessions, NATO neutrality, and limitations on troop numbers, which many experts believe Kyiv cannot accept given the sacrifices made thus far.
