“Shortage of Condoms Hits Winter Olympics Village”

The Winter Olympics village has reportedly exhausted its condom supply despite distributing 10,000 free condoms to athletes. The living quarters for Olympians during the Games are well-known for their lively atmosphere, with numerous stories of amorous encounters surfacing over time.

Officials are taking steps to address potential issues by providing free contraceptives. However, while 200,000 condoms were handed out at the Paris Summer Games in 2024, only 10,000 were distributed at Milano Cortina this year, even though there were approximately 10,500 athletes in Paris and just under 3,000 in northern Italy for the current event.

An anonymous athlete revealed to Italian newspaper La Stampa that the condom supply ran out in just three days, with assurances of more to come, though the timeline remains uncertain.

In an effort to curb off-camera activities, Olympic organizers have introduced so-called ‘anti-sex’ beds, featuring a reduced cardboard design. Despite these measures, reports suggest that the initiative has not been effective in deterring athletes.

This shortage of condoms is not a new occurrence. Organizers at the Sydney 2000 Olympics had to order an additional 20,000 condoms after exhausting their initial allocation of 70,000.

The potential outbreak of a sexually transmitted infection would present a significant challenge for the Games. Athletes arriving in Milan were reminded of the importance of prioritizing health and exercising caution.

A former Olympic gold medallist shed light on the vibrant atmosphere in the village, emphasizing the prevalent nature of intimate encounters. The individual highlighted the open acknowledgment of such activities within the Olympic community, noting the provision of condoms as a tacit acknowledgment of this reality.

The Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games are ongoing from February 6-22, offering fans over 850 hours of live action on discovery+ via Prime Video. The £3.99 discovery+ Entertainment subscription provides access to TNT Sports 2 for comprehensive 24/7 Olympic coverage.
