“SIU Investigates Death of Man in Orillia OPP Cell”

Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has launched an investigation following the discovery of a deceased man in an Orillia Detachment cell of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) on Monday morning. The SIU disclosed in a press release on Monday that a 44-year-old individual was found dead in the cell. The man had been apprehended on Sunday evening, along with two others, in connection to a reported disturbance.

Following their arrest, the men were taken to the Orillia OPP Detachment, where they underwent a search process and were placed in cells, as outlined by the SIU. During a routine check on Monday morning, staff noticed that one of the men was unresponsive. Paramedics promptly initiated life-saving procedures upon their arrival, but unfortunately, the man was later pronounced dead, according to the release.

The SIU has deployed three investigators and one forensic expert to handle the case diligently.
