The police oversight agency in the province is looking into a collision involving a police car and a civilian vehicle in Pickering, Ontario, on Friday. According to Monica Hudon, a spokesperson for the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), the incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. when a Durham Regional Police Service officer was en route to an emergency call on Kingston Road.
The collision between the police cruiser and the civilian vehicle took place at the intersection of Kingston Road and Brock Road, resulting in injuries to the individuals in the civilian vehicle. A child among the passengers sustained a serious injury and was taken to the hospital, as confirmed by Hudon.
Durham police stated that their officers were responding to a call when the collision occurred at Kingston Road and Brock Road on Friday evening. Const. Nick Gluckstein informed CBC Toronto via email on Monday that the SIU was notified and has taken over the investigation.
Following the incident, Durham police posted on social media that Kingston Road was shut down at Brock Road in both directions, with southbound traffic on Brock Road from Finch Avenue also being halted for the collision inquiry. Subsequently, Durham police reported that the roads were reopened around 2 a.m. on Saturday.
