Tyson McEwan from McEwans Towing in Havre Boucher, based near the Canso Causeway in Antigonish County, had a busy weekend rescuing around 20 vehicles due to the storm. The severe weather in Cape Breton resulted in over 200 millimetres of rainfall, causing significant damage. Tragically, one individual was found dead in a flooded area near Cleveland, N.S.
McEwan faced challenging conditions during his operations, including a notable rescue in St. Francis Harbour, Guysborough County. A driver unknowingly drove into floodwaters, with their vehicle being swept sideways by the strong currents. McEwan, who has been providing towing services in Nova Scotia for six years, described the situation as unprecedented, navigating through multiple road washouts and compromised road shoulders.
Despite the difficult circumstances, McEwan successfully completed the rescues, highlighting the extreme conditions he encountered. The storm also impacted mainland Nova Scotia, with heavy rain and flooding posing significant challenges to both residents and emergency responders in the region.
