Following the discovery of structural cracks at an elementary school in Quebec City, over 300 students and teachers are being relocated to a different school just before the new academic year commences. Inspections conducted on Saint-Fidèle elementary school unveiled cracks in the beams and pillars of the building, as per an email statement sent to parents by the Quebec City school service center. Although assessments by experts have indicated no immediate safety hazards for occupants, the necessary repairs are deemed substantial, requiring a significant construction project.
The school service center has arranged for the students and staff to be accommodated in another facility owned by the service, situated 250 meters away. A total of 345 students and employees will be affected by the relocation. An online meeting for parents has been scheduled for August 20 to address the situation.
