Superdrug has announced a plan to launch 30 new stores in the current year, leading to the creation of approximately 600 job opportunities. Among the upcoming locations in England are White Rose Leeds, Crawley, Waterlooville Retail Park, Newport Retail Park, and Isle of Wight.
In addition to these, Superdrug is set to introduce new stores in Scotland, including Dundee Gallagher Retail Park, Kilmarnock Retail Park, East Kilbride, Strathkelvin Retail Park, Linwood Phoenix Retail Park, and Cwmbran Retail Park in Wales.
The new stores will feature Superdrug Beauty Studios providing services like ear piercing, manicures, and eyebrow threading. Furthermore, Superdrug intends to refurbish 60 stores within the year. Currently, the health and beauty retailer operates more than 780 stores across the UK and Ireland.
Superdrug executives have attributed the expansion plans to a surge in customer demand at their stores. The company aims to focus on developing large-format destination stores and retail park locations.
Clare Jennings, the property director at Superdrug, emphasized the significance of physical retail experiences and the company’s commitment to offering trusted products and services in welcoming community spaces. The investment in the new stores is expected to enhance access to healthcare, beauty products, and treatments while generating numerous job opportunities.
In related retail news, M&S has disclosed plans to open new stores in 500 locations as part of its strategy to expand its food business. The company is seeking larger sites to double the size of its food stores and is particularly interested in areas without existing M&S outlets such as Hove, Marlborough, and Wallingford.
M&S aims to increase the average size of its Food stores to 18,000 square feet and is in the process of opening or renewing 20 stores by the end of the financial year, leading to the creation of 800 new jobs. This move is aimed at providing a wider range of products and attracting more customers for their weekly shopping needs.
