Canadian swimmer Taylor Ruck narrowly missed out on the gold medal in the women’s 50-meter freestyle event at the World Aquatics Swimming World Cup held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Ruck, 26 years old from Kelowna, B.C., clocked in at 23.68 seconds, finishing just 5-100ths of a second behind Poland’s Kasia Wasick. Wasick, undefeated in short-course races in this event since December 2022, claimed the top spot.
In the men’s 100-meter individual medley, Finlay Knox from Okotoks, Alberta, secured third place with a time of 51.65 seconds. Australian swimmer Cameron McEvoy set a new World Cup record of 20.13 seconds in the men’s 50-meter freestyle, marking the second-fastest swim in history. The three-day competition will continue on Friday.
