On Thanksgiving Monday in the Halifax area, some businesses and facilities will be open while others will be closed. Grocery stores such as Sobeys, Walmart, Atlantic Superstore, and Costco will not be open, but Dartmouth’s Gateway Meat Market will remain open. The NSLC stores and shopping centers like Halifax Shopping Centre, Mic Mac Mall, and Sunnyside Mall will be closed. Certain pharmacies will operate as usual.
Halifax Public Libraries will be closed, and Halifax Transit along with the Alderney ferry service will run on holiday schedules. The Woodside ferry service will not be operational on Monday. There will be no garbage, organics, or recyclables collection, and the Otter Lake Waste Management Facility and Materials Recovery Facility will be closed.
While many recreation facilities will be closed, the Sackville Sports Stadium will remain open. On-street paid parking will be free, and the 311 citizen contact center will be closed for full-service requests but will still handle urgent calls. Regular operations will resume on Tuesday.
