“The Assembly Returns: Celebrity Interviews with Neurodivergent Adults”

CBC’s reality show, The Assembly, is back for a sophomore season featuring six fresh celebrity interviews and a larger ensemble of over 30 neurodivergent and autistic adults conducting the interviews.

The lineup of celebrity guests facing the heat includes actors Hudson Williams (Heated Rivalry), Zach Galifianakis (The Hangover), and Jay Baruchel (This is the End). Additionally, the six-episode season will showcase actor and Miss Universe Canada Ashley Callingbull (North of North), musician Lights, and three-time Olympic hockey gold medalist Marie-Philip Poulin.

Each celebrity undergoes an unfiltered interview session, with questions that delve beyond the usual promotional discourse, often leading to personal revelations. The show’s charm lies in its mix of returning and new interviewers, fostering candid conversations, humorous moments, and genuine connections.

The show’s format is inspired by the French program Les Rencontres du Papotin, which kicked off in 2022 with notable guests like Killing Eve star Camille Cottin and French President Emmanuel Macron. This format has now traversed borders with international adaptations featuring renowned figures such as actors Antonio Banderas, Michael Sheen, David Tennant, and Stephen Fry.

Season 1 of The Assembly clinched a Canadian Screen Award for best direction, three Telly Awards, a Golden Sheaf Award at the Yorkton Film Festival, and a Banff Rockie Award nomination. The show’s return signifies its successful connection with audiences through its emphasis on genuine interactions and humor.

The second season, produced by Vancouver-based Small Army Entertainment for CBC, debuts on Sunday, November 1, at 9 p.m. ET on CBC TV and CBC Gem. Exclusive “producer’s cuts” will be accessible solely on CBC Gem starting at 9 a.m. ET on the same day.
