“Timpson Launches Instant Smartphone Trade-In Service”

Shoe repair chain Timpson has introduced a new service for trading in mobile phones. Partnering with gadget resell company musicMagpie and its parent company AO, Timpson now allows individuals to bring their unwanted smartphones to any Timpson store and receive immediate cash, as confirmed by the company.

Recent research indicates that 73% of adults in the UK possess at least one unused smartphone at home, with an average trade-in value of approximately £250. The total value of these unused devices is estimated to be around £10 billion, based on findings from Censuswide.

Despite the availability of numerous online resell platforms, Timpson aims to cater to individuals who prefer face-to-face transactions. The survey revealed that 68% of people prefer in-person device trade-ins, with one in four emphasizing the importance of receiving instant payment.

After a successful trial period that began four months ago, Timpson and musicMagpie have expanded the trade-in service to over 1,300 Timpson stores nationwide.

John Roberts, the CEO and founder of AO World, expressed that overcoming apathy is the main challenge in trading in old technology. The partnership with Timpson simplifies the process for customers, enabling them to swiftly receive cash for their old smartphones at any of the 1,300 Timpson locations.

Steve Oliver, the managing director and co-founder of musicMagpie, stated that integrating Magpie into Timpson’s extensive network marks a significant achievement and enhances convenience for customers.

Timpson’s group director, Sid Hubbard, highlighted the trusted relationship their staff have with customers and emphasized the company’s commitment to extending its services to include smartphone trade-ins in collaboration with musicMagpie.
