The Toronto Raptors have announced that they will honor Kyle Lowry by retiring his No. 7 jersey after the game against the Philadelphia 76ers on January 10. Lowry will be only the second player in Raptors history to receive this honor, following Vince Carter. Having retired in July at the age of 40 after a remarkable 20-year career in the NBA, Lowry signed a one-day contract with Toronto, making his retirement official as a member of the Raptors.
Expressing his excitement, Lowry stated, “I’ve eagerly awaited this moment for years. Toronto has always been my home, and I had always planned to retire as a Raptor. Seeing my No. 7 jersey raised in the rafters of that arena will hold immense significance for me.” He continued, “Together with my teammates, the organization, the city, the fans, and all of Canada, we created something extraordinary. We achieved championship success together, and being able to share this special night with them, alongside my family, will hold great sentimental value for me.”
During his nine seasons with the team, Lowry played a pivotal role in leading the Raptors to their first NBA title in 2019. As a six-time NBA All-Star, he holds the franchise records for assists, steals, and three-pointers.
