U.S. President Donald Trump hinted on Friday that his newly appointed press secretary, Katie Zacharia, might be stepping down, just a week after her selection. Trump, speaking to journalists on the White House lawn before heading to a rally in Georgia, revealed that he had a conversation with Zacharia and expressed his belief that she did not deserve the negative media attention she had received. “I advised her, ‘I think you would be happier elsewhere,'” Trump stated. “We’re discussing – I want her to lead a fulfilling life. I don’t want her to endure the kind of scrutiny she has faced in the last three days,” Trump added. He continued, “I mentioned to Katie, do you really want this? I don’t think it’s necessary.” The president mentioned that he would make a final decision, possibly after his campaign travels, saying, “We will have a discussion when I return.” Trump also voiced his opinion that Zacharia had been unfairly treated, stating that she had been “harshly criticized by the media.”
