UK Samsung TV users are in for a significant enhancement as they are set to receive a complimentary upgrade providing a range of bonus content. UKTV has officially announced that its popular free-to-air linear channels will soon be accessible on Samsung screens, allowing viewers in the UK to enjoy content without the need for extra devices for the first time.
The channels will be delivered via the internet, eliminating the requirement for a traditional aerial connection. In addition, Samsung will introduce a dedicated section on its home screen to showcase content from the U streaming service, facilitating easier content discovery without the hassle of navigating menus or settings.
In the upcoming months, viewers will have access to channels like U&DRAMA, U&Dave, U&YESTERDAY, U&W, and U&eden through a direct link from Samsung’s Universal Guide to the U app. Samsung estimates that this rollout will reach millions of its TVs, with the channels featured prominently in the platform’s ‘Live’ tab and Universal Guide, ensuring easy access to UKTV’s live and on-demand content for viewers relying solely on internet-based TV.
Jonathan Newman, UKTV’s General Manager of Commercial at BBC Studios UK and Ireland, emphasized the strengthened partnership with Samsung, highlighting the increased accessibility of the U app to Samsung customers and the enhanced visibility of UKTV’s diverse content range across video-on-demand and live channels.
Dan Harvie, Samsung UK and Ireland’s Vice President of Home Entertainment and Appliances, acknowledged the significant entertainment contribution of UKTV to Samsung TVs, stating the collaboration aims to provide customers with a wide array of broadcast content for an enriched entertainment experience. Samsung, recognized as the world’s leading TV brand for two decades consecutively, reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing the viewing experience through innovative partnerships like this one, integrating UKTV’s content with services such as Samsung TV Plus and seamless access to built-in broadcast apps.
Although an exact release date has yet to be disclosed, the new features are anticipated to debut on Samsung TVs shortly, enhancing the viewing experience for users.
