“Warning: Don’t Leave Vapes in Cars this Winter”

With winter approaching in the UK, drivers are being cautioned against leaving a particular item in their vehicles to avoid potential fire risks and costly damages. Markus Lindblad, the director at Haypp, highlighted the dangers associated with storing vapes in cars during colder temperatures. Lindblad explained that recharging a frozen battery without proper warming could lead to malfunctions and overheating, posing a fire hazard, especially with non-compliant or black-market vape devices lacking safety regulations.

Leaking vape juice is another concern in cold weather, as the e-liquid may thicken, freeze, or expand, potentially causing leaks that can damage the car’s interior, upholstery, vents, and electrical components, requiring costly repairs.

Furthermore, exposing vapes to cold temperatures can harm various parts of the device, affecting performance, battery life, and damaging coils, screens, or tanks.

If a vape has been left in a cold car for an extended period, it is essential to allow the device to return to room temperature before checking for leaks and charging. If leaks are detected, it is advisable to replace the vape and recycle it properly.

To prevent potential hazards, it is recommended to remove vapes from cars when expecting temperature drops. If removal is not possible, experts suggest wrapping the device in clothing and storing it in the glove box. Vapes should be stored at room temperature to prevent battery damage and reduce fire risks.

The NHS emphasizes the importance of understanding that vaping is not entirely risk-free, advising against children and non-smokers using vapes.

For those looking to quit vaping, the NHS offers a guide on ‘how to quit vaping’ for assistance.
