Parks Canada has shut down a portion of the Ä’äy Chù Valley in Kluane National Park and Reserve near Haines Junction, Yukon following an incident where a wolf attacked a visitor, resulting in minor injuries. The closure affects various popular hiking trails in the northern area of the park, including Bullion Plateau, Sheep Creek, Shepherd’s Knoll, Ä’äy Chù East, and Ä’äy Chù West.
Reports have indicated that a young, solitary wolf displayed audacious behavior by tailing individuals and coming into contact with personal belongings. Parks Canada, in a bulletin released on Friday, mentioned these incidents. Presently, resource conservation personnel are evaluating the situation as confirmed by Parks Canada on Sunday.
The federal agency highlighted that conflicts between humans and wolves are exceptionally uncommon. For any wildlife sightings, visitors are encouraged to contact the Kluane National Park and Reserve Visitor Centre, situated within the Da Kų Cultural Centre, at 867-634-5134.
