Vodafone introduces a novel method for internet access by utilizing a 5G mobile signal through its new Wi-Fi router, eliminating the need for traditional copper or fiber connections. This innovative approach caters to households without access to faster full fiber connections or individuals seeking flexibility, especially beneficial for renters or students frequently changing residences.
The new router offers easy installation without the requirement of an engineer, simply plug it in, power it up, and enjoy instant web connectivity thanks to Vodafone’s network support. However, the maximum speed achievable with this system is 150Mbps, suitable for activities like streaming movies on Netflix, sending emails, and remote work, though it falls short of the speeds provided by full fiber connections exceeding 900Mbps.
Downloading a full HD movie using this 5G router takes approximately 8 minutes, a contrast to the mere 40 seconds required with a fiber gigabit connection. To assist consumers in selecting the right connection for their needs, Vodafone is launching an integrated availability checker on Vodafone.co.uk for easy comparison between full fiber and 5G Broadband speeds in their area.
While Vodafone previously offered web access via 5G with the GigaCube device, the new router has replaced it. Rob Winterschladen, Consumer Director at VodafoneThree, emphasized the importance of offering fast and reliable broadband, providing an alternative for households facing slow and unreliable connections.
Vodafone’s pricing starts from £21 per month, while Three, now part of Vodafone, offers a similar service at £11 for the initial nine months, presenting customers with competitive options for high-speed internet access.
