February has been identified as the optimal month to list your home for sale, as per findings from property platform Rightmove. A recent study on house sales indicated that 68.9% of homes listed in February successfully attracted buyers.
In a close second place are January and March, with 68.8% of listed homes finding buyers on average. Following these are April at 68.7% and May at 67.7%. Conversely, October ranked lowest on the list, with 65.4% of listed homes still managing to be sold.
On average, it takes seven months to secure a buyer for a property and complete the sale. The analysis by Rightmove covered millions of property listings from 2014 to 2024, excluding 2020 due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic and 2025 to allow for properties listed later in the year.
January emerges as the swiftest month for finding a buyer, with an average of 47 days, closely followed by February at 48 days. March stands out as the month with the highest number of newly listed properties and where most sales are agreed upon.
Rightmove’s property expert, Colleen Babcock, suggests that February is the prime month to sell a home, followed by the bustling Spring home-moving season. She encourages potential sellers eyeing a 2026 move to consider listing their properties soon to capitalize on heightened buyer activity.
