“Ronnie O’Sullivan Makes History with 153 Break”

Snooker legend Ronnie O’Sullivan has made history by achieving the highest break ever recorded in professional snooker, scoring a remarkable 153 against Ryan Day. O’Sullivan showcased exceptional form at the World Open in Yushan, China, defeating both Matthew Selt and Shaun Murphy to secure a spot in the quarter-final against Day.

During his match with Day, known as ‘The Rocket,’ O’Sullivan set a new record by scoring 153 points in the opening frame. This outstanding performance surpassed the previous record of 148 held by Jamie Burnett. The 50-year-old executed a flawless 16-red clearance after receiving a free ball, ultimately dominating the table.

Although O’Sullivan had a shot at a maximum 155 break, he slightly missed one shot, forcing him to settle for the pink instead of the black ball. Nevertheless, he continued his impressive streak by potting the final six colors after sinking the last red, reaching a score of 146 and ultimately achieving the highest break ever in professional snooker with 153 points.

Despite losing the frame, Day acknowledged O’Sullivan’s remarkable achievement by applauding him, leaving spectators in awe. Commentators, including Neal Foulds, expressed astonishment at the historic event, with Foulds describing O’Sullivan’s performance as “mind-blowing.”

O’Sullivan’s feat breaks the previous record set by Burnett in 2004, solidifying his position as a snooker icon. The ongoing season, despite some setbacks for O’Sullivan, has seen him excel at the World Open, with a commanding 4-0 lead over world No.36 Day, bringing him closer to securing a spot in the semi-finals.
