McBride, a five-time all-star and four-time EuroLeague champion, was on fire behind the arc, converting 10 of 14 attempts to finish with a career-high 43 points. The crowd’s energy seemed to fuel her pursuit of the record, and she delivered with a record-breaking shot with 2:23 remaining, extending the Lynx’s lead to 98-83 before exiting the game to a standing ovation with 1:21 left.
Expressing gratitude for the support from the fans and the organization, McBride shared, “Minneapolis has become home for me, and I want to give my best. The previous record of nine 3-pointers in a game had been equaled eight times before, with Toronto’s Marina Mabrey achieving it twice this season, most recently on June 25. Rhyne Howard of Atlanta also accomplished this feat twice.
McBride’s exceptional performance not only secured a historic moment for the Lynx but also propelled them to break the franchise’s single-game 3-point record, finishing 18 of 39 from beyond the arc. The victory marked the Lynx’s 12th win in 13 games and secured their spot as the first team to clinch a playoff berth this season.
