The burden of upholding a family legacy can be challenging. The newest members of a renowned track and field dynasty from Swift Current faced initial struggles in the sport. Jackson Tuplin, who once disliked track due to his hockey background, along with his siblings Carter and Macey, initially found it unappealing to follow in the footsteps of their family’s track history.
Their perspective changed during high school, leading Jackson and Carter to become the fourth generation of their family to compete in track and field at the University of Saskatchewan. The family’s involvement in the sport traces back to 1948 when their great-grandmother, Anne Mang, excelled in various track and field events, including winning the 100-metre provincial championship.
Anne’s daughter, Cyndi Tasche, who also competed at the U of S under Coach Lyle Sanderson, later coached the Swift Current Comprehensive High School team. Her daughters, Mandi, Lindsay, and Hillary, continued the family tradition by joining the U of S Huskies track team and achieving national success.
Mandi, inspired by her grandmother’s achievements, pursued her own track career, ultimately meeting her husband, Emery Tuplin, through the sport. The couple, both accomplished athletes, continued their involvement in track and field, with Emery contributing to the men’s team’s national success.
Their shared passion for track and field brought the couple together, and they later settled in Swift Current. Mandi took over the high school track team, leading them to multiple provincial championships. While their children excelled in track and field, they were not pressured to follow the same path but were encouraged to pursue their passions.
Jackson and Carter have achieved success as provincial gold medalists, with Carter also earning a bronze medal at the 2025 Canada Summer Games. Macey, focusing more on softball, also represented Saskatchewan in track and field competitions.
The Tuplin family’s dedication to hard work and their desire to give back to the sport reflect their commitment to continuing their family’s track legacy. Mandi expressed pride in her grandmother’s legacy, highlighting the enduring impact of their family’s involvement in track and field. As Mandi plans to retire from coaching in eight years, the next generation is poised to continue the family’s track legacy.
