150 corgis came together for an international race in Vilnius, Lithuania, celebrating the small herding dogs originating from Wales. The event included a costume parade, a contest for the “smartest nose,” and a competition for the loudest bark. Participants from nine countries, including the United States and Britain, the breed’s well-known home, joined the fifth Corgi Race Vilnius in Vingis Park. Organizer Edvinas Miskas noted the significant growth in participation from the inaugural event to this year, with 150 corgis from various nations attending.
The main running event saw 94 dogs competing in qualifiers, semifinals, and the final race over 25 meters. The American corgi GG, also known as Gustave the Girl Dog, emerged as the winner, with Mr. Corgington from the U.S. finishing a close second and Lithuania’s Moka securing third place. The competition not only focused on speed but also showcased the dogs’ and owners’ other talents.
Additionally, the event featured a costume parade with corgis dressed in various outfits, a “smartest nose” challenge where dogs searched for hidden treats, and a loudest bark competition. Mr. Corgington clinched the title for the loudest bark. The event also witnessed the participation of Duke, a 12-year-old Pembroke Welsh corgi from England, who, despite not racing due to age, competed in the barking contest. The competition brought together both new participants and veteran attendees, with some corgis like Amigo, Foksas, Foksis, Madeira, Bulka, and Dziugas being regulars at the event.
