David McDonald, an 85-year-old golfer from Fall River, Nova Scotia, recently achieved a remarkable feat by shooting an even-par 72 at the challenging Ashburn Golf Club course. Despite facing long and fast greens, McDonald’s performance was exceptional considering his age. He usually plays from the silver tees, which measure almost 5,800 yards, and he attributes his success to maintaining strong knees, hips, and legs, despite experiencing past heart issues.
McDonald, who golfs three to four times a week and prefers walking the course, views golf as a key factor in staying active and healthy. His friend, Peter Stirling, emphasized McDonald’s dedication to fitness and the game, noting that McDonald’s consistency and skill on the course are truly impressive.
Having started playing golf at the age of 30 while serving in the air force, McDonald quickly excelled in the sport, winning three national titles in military tournaments. After retiring in 1995, he continued his golfing journey and became a regular at Ashburn’s new course, where he has clinched the provincial senior men’s championship multiple times.
With 17 career holes-in-one and a passion for healthy living, McDonald remains an inspiration to many. His love for the game and commitment to staying active underscore his belief that golf has been instrumental in maintaining his physical and mental well-being over the years.
