Newfoundland Premier Shuffles Cabinet, Names New Health Minister

Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Tony Wakeham has made changes to his cabinet, particularly in the health and community services sectors. Joedy Wall has been appointed as the new health minister and minister of mental health and addictions, taking over from his previous roles as minister of social supports, housing, and poverty reduction.

Lela Evans, who previously held multiple portfolios including women and gender equality, Labrador affairs, Indigenous relations, and reconciliation, has been relieved of her duties as the health minister. Evans was absent during the announcement at Government House due to her recent breast cancer diagnosis.

Andrea Barbour, the former tourism minister, will now oversee environment, conservation, and climate change, as well as the Multi-Materials Stewardship Board. She faced criticism in the past for various issues, including altering a picture using AI for a social media post and her speeches at memorial ceremonies in France.

Mike Goosney, the former labour minister, has taken over as the new tourism minister. Chris Tibbs is now in charge of social supports, housing, poverty reduction, and persons with disabilities status. Lloyd Parrott has been assigned responsibilities for red tape reduction, government services, labor, and Workplace N.L.

Barry Petten now heads municipal and community affairs, community engagement, Registrar General, and serves as the deputy government house leader. Craig Pardy retains his position as finance minister and also takes on the role of overseeing the Office of the Chief Information Officer.
