Heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are expected to hit the Niagara region this weekend, with a potential flash flood warning issued by the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority (NPCA). The NPCA forecasts between 40 to 60 millimetres of rainfall starting on Saturday, with showers projected in the late morning and early afternoon as per Environment Canada.
Thunderstorms are also anticipated in the Niagara region during the afternoon and evening, with a risk of thunderstorms in Hamilton and Haldimand. The weather agency expects these conditions to start in the late morning and extend into the evening, possibly continuing overnight, with additional rainfall of 15 to 25 mm in affected areas.
Showers are predicted to persist on Sunday in the Niagara region, Hamilton, and Haldimand County. The conservation authority warns of potential flash flooding along small and urbanized watercourses, rapid water level increases, and flooding in low-lying or poorly drained areas. While major flooding near larger watercourses is not expected, residents are advised to avoid creeks, rivers, and areas prone to rising water levels.
Niagara residents are urged to keep children and pets away from waterways and clear debris from culverts, catch basins, and ditches.
