“Devastating Tornado Hits Pomas, France”

A powerful tornado has struck the village of Pomas in southern France, causing extensive damage to over 300 homes and resulting in numerous injuries, though no missing persons have been reported. The Aude prefecture indicated that as of Tuesday morning, 1,400 households remained without electricity. The tornado was captured on video above the village of Verzeille, just east of Pomas, with many homes along its path suffering shattered windows.

Images from social media, verified by Reuters, show the tornado passing through Preixan, located north of Pomas. The aftermath of the disaster in Pomas is marked by residents taking stock and cleaning up the debris. Scenes include a man amidst the ruins of a damaged house, debris inside the collapsed Saint Julien et Sainte Basilisse church, fallen trees in a cemetery, men covering a damaged building roof with a tarp, and pedestrians navigating past a fallen tree near damaged homes.
