The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSBC) has verified that an emergency landing of a plane on Highway 587 northeast of Thunder Bay, Ontario, was a result of an engine failure. The incident, which took place in Pass Lake, involved a privately-owned Cessna 182P aircraft that declared an emergency and executed a forced landing, according to TSBC spokesperson Liam MacDonald in communication with CBC News.
There were three individuals aboard the aircraft at the time, and fortunately, no injuries were sustained, as confirmed by MacDonald. While information is being collected, no investigators have been dispatched yet, he mentioned. Pass Lake, situated in the Thunder Bay district, is an unincorporated community located approximately 55 kilometers northeast of the city.
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) North West Region was notified of the event at around 2:45 p.m. ET on Monday, as stated by regional media and communications coordinator Erin McCrea. McCrea further explained that the pilot managed to land the plane safely, and only a section of Highway 587 was temporarily closed. The aircraft was promptly removed thereafter.
Despite the activation of fire crews, their assistance was not needed, as indicated by a post on Facebook by the Pass Lake Volunteer Fire Protection Team on Monday.
